
Kuching, 20 September 2025 – The Teaching Through Play: Serious Games for Active Learning workshop, hosted at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, brought together school teachers from across Kuching to explore innovative approaches to classroom engagement.
Organized in collaboration with the IEEE Sarawak Subsection and the IEEE Swinburne Sarawak Student Branch, the workshop introduced participants to the use of serious games as tools to motivate learners, boost participation and foster active learning.
Teachers were introduced to platforms such as Educaplay, Baamboozle and Blooket, and participated in an energetic Pictionary session that highlighted the fun side of interactive learning. They also learned to design game-based lesson plans tailored to their own teaching contexts.

Adding to the experience, participants received a bonus session on Generative AI prompting, using it to spark fresh and creative lesson ideas. The day concluded with team presentations where teachers showcased their inventive strategies for integrating serious games into real classroom settings.
The workshop not only emphasized the potential of game-based learning in education but also inspired teachers to experiment with new methods to enhance student engagement and participation.
