The 4th IEEE Sarawak Subsection Robotics Bootcamp, co-organized with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak (SUTS), concluded successfully on 6th September 2025 at the university’s campus with an impressive showcase of creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills from secondary school students across Kuching.
The event began with a hands-on training bootcamp held on 2nd August 2025, where participants were introduced to robotics fundamentals and guided through the configuration of the MBOT robot. This training provided students with the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to compete in the final competition.
This year’s competition attracted 67 students from six secondary schools in Kuching, with a total of 21 teams registered; 15 in the Junior Category and 6 in the Senior Category.
Competition Highlights
In the Junior Category, SMK Sungai Tapang emerged as overall champion, followed by another team from SMK Sungai Tapang as 1st runner-up, while SMK Jalan Arang secured 2nd runner-up.

The Senior Category was dominated by Chung Hua Middle School No. 1, whose teams impressively swept all three top positions, namely Champion, 1st runner-Up and 2nd runner-Up.

A new award, the Best Presentation Category, was also introduced this year to recognize technical and presentation excellence. The award went to Lodge Secondary School in the Junior Category and SMK Kuching High in the Senior Category.
Fostering Future Talent
The annual IEEE Sarawak Robotics Bootcamp and Competition continues to serve as an important platform to nurture students’ interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through experiential learning, teamwork and innovation. Through this collaboration with SUTS, IEEE Sarawak Subsection continues to inspire the next generation of innovators and prepare them with the skills needed to thrive in the digital era.
