On May 21st, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Swinburne Sarawak Student Branch won the prestigious international award, i.e. 2019 R10 EA Challenge Pre-University Category organised by IEEE Region 10 Educational Activities Committee (EAC). R10 covers 718 student branches, 34 Subsections and 58 Sections in the Asia and Pacific region.
The main objective of the R10 EA Challenge was to encourage innovative and creative programs from student branches across Asia and Pacific region, which provides value to IEEE members and in alignment with IEEE International goals. It also aims to raise the awareness of IEEE mission and vision among the community, encourage the exploration and utilisation of IEEE resources and promote collaboration between IEEE units. The IEEE Swinburne Student Branch’s chair and vice-chair, Aylwin Chai Bing Chun and Josiah Yang Qi were overwhelmed by this international recognition even though the student branch is only in its 2nd year of establishment. The chair thanked the advisors, Dr Lau Bee Theng and Dr Mark Tee, for their continuous support for the branch and encouragement to take up the challenge.
