The IEEE Sarawak subsection has organized a prize giving ceremony to award the best smart traffic light control system design which is the top best project demonstrated by the student after joining the “IEEE Arduino Online Simulator (WOKWI) challenge” on 7th May 2022. Students were given five months to complete the project setup and WOKWI simulation.

We are delighted to announce the top best project, namely T-junction traffic light system with pedestrian protection feature designed by Felix Thian Zhi Xiang from SMK Arang Road”, said Ts Dr. Tay Fei Siang.

The smart traffic light control system was verified by the WOKWI Online simulator before physical implementation

The secondary school students participated in the first workshop on 7th May 2022 before they can join the competition which aimed to inspire students to propose innovative ideas for the smart traffic light control system using Arduino Online Simulation and convert their idea into practical implementation. All the participants received Arduino Kits for the practical implementation of their proposed design.

Physical build of the proposed smart traffic light control system

In this challenge, the student was tasked to design and implement an innovative smart traffic light control system following the previous WOKWI simulation workshop in May 2022. Participants can use cardboard, A4 paper, straw, satay sticks, glue, marker pen any non-electronic material to build the system. The winner was selected based on the Innovation, Practicality, Use of simulation tools, and oral presentation.
