Our members Dr Lau Bee Theng, Dr Mark Tee Kit Tsun and Dr Aylwin Chai Bing Chun, have recently been awarded a special fund from IEEE Region 10 (Asia Pacifics) and IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee to conduct a project on developing an autonomous physical distancing tool for people with visual impairment.

The Special Call for Proposals Focused on Addressing Local Needs During COVID Time is an innovative initiative of IEEE Region 10 and the IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee. This fund supports the projects that utilize innovative technology to address the COVID-19 situations while keeping safety the highest priority. The team proposed a solution to address social distancing in the local visually impaired community that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused.

This work collaborates with Swinburne Sarawak, whose 2025 vision is people and technology working together to build a better world. IEEE’s core purpose is to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.
