The IEEE Malaysia Sarawak Subsection will be organizing the IEEE Technical Talk titled Trust-Tech Methodology for Nonlinear Constrained Optimization and Optimal Power Flow in Power Grids by Prof. Hsiao-Dong Chiang from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA.

The talk will be conducted on the following date and time.

Speaker: Prof. Hsiao-Dong Chiang
Date: 8 April 2022
Time: 2:00PM – 3:00PM (+8GMT)
Platform: Zoom (Zoom link to be sent to registered email)

Introduction:

A novel paradigm, termed Trust-Tech, for general nonlinear optimization will be presented. Trust-Tech methodology has been applied to machine learning, optimal power flow, network partitioning, data clustering, signal processing, and artificial neural networks and was awarded five U.S. patents. In this talk, Prof. Hsiao will present an overview of Trust-Tech, its theoretical basis, and its practical applications in optimal power flow as well as cases demonstrating its use.

Speaker Profile:

Hsiao-Dong Chiang (F’97) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and computer sciences from the University of California at Berkeley. Since 1998, he has been a professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA. His current research interests include nonlinear systems, power networks, nonlinear computation and optimization, and their practical applications. He holds 30 U.S. and overseas patents and several consultant positions. He is the author of two books: Direct Methods for Stability Analysis of Electric Power Systems (Hoboken, NJ, USA: Wiley, 2011) and (with Luis F. Alberto) Stability Regions of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems (Cambridge, UK: Cambridge Univ. Press, 2015). He has served as an associate editor for three different IEEE transactions and journals, served as a board member for IEEJ Japan, and is the founder and president of Bigwood Systems, Inc. (founded in 1995) and Global Optimal Technology, Inc. (founded in 2000), both located in Ithaca, NY, USA.
