The IEEE Sarawak Subsection and Swinburne student branch recently organized yet another trip to Kampung Salak to promote STEM in line with Industry 4.0.

The main purpose of this project would be to generate clean and sustainable energy while maintaining a good health routine for the villagers. The team proposed to install two bicycles at the village’s innovation corner which attached to a lighting system and lights up the school compound at night.

The proposed mechanism is to harvest electricity using the pedal power from the bicycles and perform energy conversion from kinetic to electrical energy by using the dynamos installed on the exercise bikes. As such, the villagers can then cycle at the same time charge battery system in order to supply electricity to the lighting.

SK Salak would be the first school for this project to be implemented and there will be an online monitoring done in which the school is required to report any changes in the battery level.
