IEEE Malaysia conducted Happy IEEE Day 2021 in conjunction with the global IEEE Day celebration. IEEE Day 2021 Malaysia Section invited all IEEE and non-IEEE members to the IEEE Day 2021 Malaysia Section Virtual Celebration full-day event on 9th October 2021 (Saturday) via Cisco Webex Event.

The event covered the IEEE Day 2021 Malaysia Section Official Launching, IEEE Day 2021 Quiz, Humanitarian Activities Sharing by IEEE SIGHT Committee and IEEE HAC/SIGHT Grant Recipients, Educational Activities Sharing by IEEE STEM Ambassador and IEEE R10 EA Fund Recipients.

Our senior member, Dr Lau Bee Theng, who is also an academic member of Swinburne Sarawak Campus, was invited to speak on IEEE STEM Initiatives in Sarawak. Bee Theng shared with the audience how she has collaborated with local communities, industries and universities in the past to reach out to primary and secondary school students and teachers to promote STEM skills acquisition activities and programs.

IEEE Sarawak and Swinburne Sarawak student branch have benefited from various industry and university resources to analyse, design, and develop STEM programs that meet the needs of STEM education in Sarawak, not just in urban but also rural areas. The IEEE EA board has also generously extended its financial and technical support for STEM development in Sarawak. According to Bee Theng, “The efforts continue, and I hope to advance the STEM education and activity in Sarawak and Malaysia.”
