IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE provides a suite of resources that inspire and enable IEEE volunteers worldwide to carry out and support impactful humanitarian technology and sustainable development activities at the local level.
The IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Activities Committee recognizes the importance of humanitarian project design skills for new initiated and new technology adopters and developers. It encourages R10 Sections to support and contribute to the Humanitarian Technology areas. IEEE Region 10 covers the Asia Pacific countries, containing 60 sections, 41 subsections, and six councils (Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand) with more than 140 thousand members.
Our IEEE Sarawak Senior Member, Lau Bee Theng, an academic member of Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, won the prestigious IEEE Region 10 Outstanding Humanitarian Technology Activity (HTA) Volunteer. Bee Theng has been actively involved in social inclusion and advancing community through technology activities.
IEEE Sarawak Subsection is very proud of this achievement as this is the first time a member of a subsection in IEEE Region 10 won the outstanding volunteer award. The Outstanding HTA Volunteer award is presented to the highly recognized member in Region 10, with only one award per year for region 10 covering the Asia Pacific countries.
Once again, congratulations to Lau Bee Theng!
