Dynamic Youth Innovation Sparkles at the IEEE Sarawak Robotics Competition: An Intiative Nurturing STEM Talent in the Region

The third series of the IEEE Sarawak Robotics Competition unfolded on 27 April 2024 (Saturday) at the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak campus. Organized by the IEEE Sarawak subsection in collaboration with the IEEE Swinburne Sarawak Student Branch, the event brought together bright young minds eager to showcase their skills and technical knowledge in robotics.

The competition saw the participation of secondary schools from across Kuching. A total of 13 teams competed in the RoboRace Challenge for the Junior category, comprising students from Lower Secondary Form 1-3, and 8 teams competed in the PathFinder Challenge for the Senior Category, comprising students from Upper Secondary Form 4-6. In the Junior category, SMK Jalan Arang dominated the RoboRace Challenge, taking both the champion and runner-up spots. SMK Kuching High secured the third place. In the senior category, SMK Kuching High once again emerged as the champion in the PathFinder Challenge. St. Joseph’s Private Secondary School claimed first runner-up, while SMK Kuching High secured third place.

As the competition ended, participants reflected on the achievements and friendships formed throughout the event. The IEEE Sarawak Robotics Bootcamp and Competition not only celebrates innovation but also encourages collaboration and learning to shape the future of technology. With the conclusion of this series, the event continues to inspire future generations in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
