On 23rd Dec 2022, the IEEE Swinburne Student Chapter and Swinburne University Sarawak Campus’ Computer Science Club and Robotics Club organized the Computer Networking Bootcamp at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus. The bootcamp was facilitated and conducted Dr. Mark Tee, an EXCO Member & the Secretary of IEEE Malaysia Sarawak Subsection who is also the advisor for the organizing clubs.
In the bootcamp, participants had the opportunity to learn various networking concepts and issues such as cabling selection, device connectivity, and basic network planning, forming a small LAN and the concept of P2P client-servers architecture. This session presents itself as an opportunity in gaining hands-on practical skills through learning how common SOHO network devices can be set up for local area connectivity between multiple workstations.
The latter half of the session accommodated a light-hearted mini-session of testing LAN programs such as Unreal Tournament while enjoying pizza and drinks sponsored by the Computer Science Club. While short, this is a successful indicator of what possibly programs that can be introduced in future deliveries of this bootcamp.
The session is concluded with a group picture session and a promise for a Networking Bootcamp 2.0 in the coming semester.
